Spicy Chili
If you're in the mood to clear your sinuses with some comfort food, this is your stop. My husband loves all things spicy so this is his very own recipe filled with all things hot.
What you'll need:
1 pound ground beef
1 pound ground Italian sausage (hot or mild)
29 oz can Hunt's tomato sauce
16 oz can pinto beans
16 oz can kidney beans
16 oz can whole kernel corn
4 cloves minced garlic
1/2 diced yellow sweet onion
2 squares 90% dark chocolate bar
1 Tbsp honey
2.5 Tbsp chili powder
1 Tbsp cumin
1 Tbsp cayenne powder
1 Tbsp oregano
2 habanero peppers - seeded and finely dice one, leave the other one whole
2 serrano peppers seeded and finely diced
How to make it:
Start by dicing up the peppers, onion, and mincing the garlic cloves. Set aside.
Add the meat to a 6 qt dutch oven and brown. Add in the diced veggies when the meat is almost cooked.
Pour in the tomato sauce, and add whole habanero pepper, spices, honey and dark chocolate. Stir to combine. Simmer on low for 1 hour stirring occasionally. Add a little water as needed.
After the hour, add all of the beans and corn. Simmer for another 10-20 mins.
Pull out the whole habanero before serving.
Top with shredded cheddar cheese and a dollop of sour cream to add the perfect amount of cooling creaminess.
