Homemade Whipped Body Butter

I've been making my own body butter for over 10 years. My son has severe allergies which makes his skin seep and crack. The ingredients in regular lotions always burns his open eczema, and petroleum-based moisturizers aren't good for you. So I had to create my own non-toxic lotion, and I’ve never looked back.

This is an easy and skin-nourishing recipe that's silky and incredibly moisturizing. I like to add premium quality essential oils for added skincare benefits and wellness. I use Young Living's Lavender, Frankincense, and Patchouli, or for respiratory relief Peppermint, Eucalyptus Radiata, and RC. I add in about 20 drops total in this recipe. What you'll need:
Makes approx 12 oz
1 cup tallow (grass-fed, rendered)
1 tbsp beeswax pellets
2 tbsp shea butter (unrefined, raw)
2 tbsp castor oil
1 tbsp manuka honey
1 tbsp zinc oxide powder (non-nano, uncoated)
1 tsp vitamin E oil
20-25 drops essential oils (tea tree, lavender, patchouli, frankincense, etc.)

How to make it:
In a double boiler, combine the tallow, beeswax, and shea butter. Melt gently over low heat, stirring occasionally until completely liquid.

Remove the mixture from the heat. Stir in the castor oil and manuka honey until fully blended.

Carefully sift in the zinc oxide powder to avoid clumps or dust. Whisk well to combine.

Allow the mixture to cool slightly until it begins to thicken but is still soft. Speed this step by placing the bowl in the fridge for 5-10 minutes.

Whip it up. Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, whip the cooled mixture until it becomes light and fluffy.

Drizzle in the vitamin E oil and any essential oils if using while whipping to ensure even distribution.

Transfer the whipped lotion to a sterilized glass jar. Seal tightly and label with the date.

Store in a cool, dry place. It should last 3-6 months as long as water isn’t introduced.
